Parenting is a beautiful journey filled with joy, worry, and endless learning. In the midst of this journey, many parents turn to dua (supplication) to seek strength, patience, and guidance. The following collection shares some of the favourite duas that one parent found comfort and connection in—duas that reflect the hopes, struggles, and love wrapped into raising children.

1. Dua for Pious Offspring

"My Lord, grant me [a child] from among the righteous."
(Qur’an 37:100)

This was one of the earliest duas this parent recited when embarking on the journey to parenthood. It served as a heartfelt plea for righteous children—because even before holding their child, they prayed for their character and closeness to Allah.

2. Dua of the Parents in the Qur’an

"My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favour which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and to do righteousness of which You approve. And make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of the Muslims."
(Qur’an 46:15)

This dua resonated deeply during both challenging and peaceful parenting moments. It reminded the parent to be grateful, ask for forgiveness, and seek righteousness for themselves and their children.

3. Dua for Patience and Strength

"Our Lord, pour upon us patience and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people."
(Qur’an 2:250)

Though not a direct parenting dua, this was often turned to in moments of overwhelm—those moments when sleep deprivation, tantrums, or tough decisions weighed heavily. The words brought solace and courage.

4. Dua for Protection

"I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every poisonous reptile, and from every evil eye."
(Sahih Muslim)

This dua became a part of the daily routine—recited over the children before bed or while stepping out into the world. It reflected the deep desire of every parent: to protect their children from harm, seen and unseen.

5. Dua for Mercy and Forgiveness

"My Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers the Day the account is established."
(Qur’an 14:41)

In the whirlwind of parenting, mistakes are inevitable. This dua was a gentle reminder to seek Allah’s forgiveness and mercy—not only for oneself but for parents and the wider ummah.

6. Dua for Guidance

"Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance."
(Qur’an 18:10)

In moments of uncertainty—whether about discipline, education, or emotional support—this dua was a source of clarity. It reminded this parent that while they might not always have the answers, Allah always does.

A Final Reflection

Parenting can feel like navigating a maze blindfolded, but dua offers light, direction, and peace. These are just a few of the duʿās that helped one parent through the highs and lows of raising children. Whether whispered at night, recited during prayer, or muttered through tears, each dua became a conversation with the Divine—a way to stay grounded in faith while striving to be the best parent possible.
