As a passionate educator and lover of Islamic children’s literature, I was thrilled to delve into the beautiful stories created by My Salah Mat. Each of their books offers unique lessons, breathtaking narratives, and inspiring messages, making them invaluable resources for Muslim families looking to nurture their children’s connection to their faith and heritage. Here’s my heartfelt review of the four wonderful books I had the privilege to explore:

The Key, the Olive Tree, and the Nakba

This story takes readers on an emotional journey to Jordan, where Hamzah and Maryam explore the bustling streets of Amman. The vivid descriptions of the setting immediately draw young readers in, helping them visualise the vibrant life of the city. But this book goes beyond just geography — it’s a touching and deeply important story that sheds light on the plight of the less fortunate.

We are introduced to Reem and her grandmother, whose memories of their beloved homeland, Palestine, are woven with beauty and heartache. The story masterfully conveys the innocence of children trying to understand the Nakba, a monumental event that uprooted families from their homes. It captures the frustration, tears, and trauma of displacement while gently explaining this heartbreaking reality to young minds.

This book is a fantastic introduction for children to learn about the struggles faced by many in the Ummah. It encourages empathy and raises awareness of the ongoing crisis. Through its heartfelt narrative, it inspires children to keep the oppressed in their duas and reminds us all of the power of collective supplication.

This book has a special place in my heart. It takes readers on an unforgettable journey to Al-Aqsa, one of the holiest places in Islam, and educates children about its rich history and significance. Narrated in child-friendly language, it is both informative and engaging, filled with questions and answers that help cement important facts about Al-Aqsa.

One of the most powerful aspects of this book is how it addresses common misconceptions, such as the confusion between the Dome of the Rock and Masjid Al-Aqsa. It teaches children about the true boundaries of Al-Aqsa, an essential piece of knowledge for every Muslim.

Hamzah and Maryam also introduce young readers to the cultural richness of Palestine, from its traditional foods to its vibrant clothing. The story even delves into the miraculous event of Al-Isra wal-Miraj, bringing the narrative to life with spiritual and historical depth.

The story encourages children to explore their imaginations as they see Hamzah and Maryam navigating challenges like finding the qibla and performing salah in space. These relatable scenarios allow young readers to understand and internalise the significance of Ramadan in a fun and engaging way.

This enchanting story combines history, fantasy, and faith, introducing children to the incredible journey of Emperor Mansa Musa. It’s a tale of inspiration and devotion as Hamzah and Maryam join Mansa Musa on his pilgrimage to the House of Allah, the Kaaba.

The book beautifully illustrates the rituals of Hajj in simple, child-friendly language while captivating readers with the vast deserts and grandeur of Mansa Musa’s journey. It fosters a sense of curiosity and wonder, making the concept of Hajj accessible and exciting for young minds.

One of my favourite aspects of this story is how it blends education with imagination. The colourful illustrations and engaging narrative help children understand the steps of Hajj and the deeper meaning behind this sacred journey. It’s the perfect book to conclude a week of learning about Hajj, tying everything together with a story that inspires love for Allah and the rituals of worship.
