When we designed Nur the Watermelon Plush Toy, it wasn’t just about creating a cute toy for children—it was about creating something meaningful, something that represents joy and carries a powerful message of solidarity. During the global protests against the Gaza genocide, the watermelon emerged as a quiet but powerful symbol of resistance and solidarity with the Palestinian people. Sharing images of watermelons became a subtle way to express unity and defiance amidst censorship. It represented life, hope, and the unwavering strength of the Palestinian spirit.

With this context in mind, we created Nur the Watermelon Plush Toy to embody more than just fun—it’s a reminder. For children, Nur is a soft and lovable companion, but for families, it’s a symbol of standing together for justice, empathy, and the power of collective voices.

The name Nur, meaning “light,” was chosen intentionally. Light symbolizes hope, guidance, and the inner strength to overcome darkness. By naming this plush toy Nur, we wanted to honor the light that continues to shine from Palestine despite the immense challenges faced by its people.
